CCB Is Excited to Announce it's New MD for 2017

Canberra City Band is thrilled to announce that Richard Mason will be joining the organisation to take on the role of Musical Director of our flagship ensemble Canberra City Band. The band would like to thank Greg Stenning for his excellent guidance during our Nationals campaign and for filling in when we had to say goodbye to our previous MD Wyanna O'Keeffe due to relocation. We are looking forward to some exciting times ahead!

 Richard Mason is an accomplished and versatile artist who has performed extensively in Australia, Europe and the United Kingdom. His professional experience encompasses orchestral and chamber music; music theatre; broadcasts for radio; recording film scores; and performances in festivals including the Melbourne International Festival. Richard is also highly active as a chamber musician, and has premiered numerous new works by leading Australian composers.Richard’s qualifications include a Master’s Degree in clarinet and bass clarinet performance from The Victorian College of the Arts, a PhD from the University of Melbourne and study in Amsterdam with the renowned bass clarinet virtuoso Harry Sparnaay. Richard’s current research interests include 20th century wind music, instrumental teaching pedagogy and performance practice. Richard was formerly a sessional lecturer at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. Now living in Canberra, Richard is looking forward to his involvement with the Canberra City Band.

CCB is one of Australia's oldest and most highly decorated concert bands. Canberra City Band was established in 1925 and has a long standing history as the band of Canberra. Regardless of your level, we want to hear from you! We play for a variety of community events throughout the year and if you don't want to play, feel free to come have a listen.
