The New Hero

The Band wishes to develop an integrated Music Drama with video elements, exploring the nature of the modern hero and their rise in response to the depredations of the modern age. Inflected with humour after Aristophanes, the production will attempt to reveal the modern hero – stripping away the popular conceit of heroism and illuminating the truly heroic, which may be found in perhaps the least predictable places. The work will draw on elements from modern history, popular culture, drama, art music, interactive entertainment, and literature to create a picture of the heroes the world has and those it requires. The production will last between one and two hours, and will incorporate musical influences including Elliot Carter, Phillip Sparke, Jeremy Soule, Harry Gregson-Williams, Ryūnosuke Akutagawa, Koji Kondo, Joe Hisaishi, Jan Van Der Roost, John Mackey, Morten Lauridsen, and Eric Whitacre.
