The Band is run by volunteer committee members and governors, and artistic staff who receive honoraria. We have nine committee members, four executive and five general. Each committee member has responsibility for a business silo: leadership, finance, facilities, corporate administration, communications, media relations, logistics, legal affairs, and strategy. The organisation also retains a facilities manager, two librarians, and a business development manager for our commercial big band.

Simon Hukin - President

Simon is a professional musician who holds degrees in Music and Political Science from the ANU and postgraduate qualifications in Project Management and Corporate Governance. He has performed internationally and throughout Australia with major orchestras and other ensembles and has spent the last five years leading community organisations. He also works professionally as strategic and management consultant and enterprise architect.

Jenna Hinton – Vice President

Jen has been a logistics and supply manager with major retail chains for eight years. She has also spent most of her life involved with music, and regularly plays percussion and kit in amateur and professional productions around the ACT. She has recently taken two shows as music director – Into the She is currently featuring in Grease and has been engaged to play the full run of Into the Woods and The Mikado. She is a graduate of the IMPACT programme.

Simon Mitchell - Treasurer

Simon is one of Canberra’s most highly qualified accountants. He spent 21 years in public practice until early retirement and now splits his time between boat building, playing bass trombone, administering Canberra City Band, renovating his house, and car racing. He has been principle bass trombone of the Canberra City Band for 9 years, and treasurer for 6.

Susan Bailey - Secretary

Sue is highly organised and efficient – traits she has developed over many years as a registered nurse. She plays clarinet with Canberra City Band and has assumed the role of secretary in 2015. She is currently working as a nurse for a number of healthcare providers around the Territory

Tim Benson – Strategy

Tim has lived and worked in Canberra for 40 years. He is the owner and publisher of B2B Magazine magazine and is Director of Man Bites Dog Public Relations. Tim has previously worked as Executive Officer at ACT Emergency Services, Communications Manager in the ACT DoJCS, and a political media adviser to ACT and Federal politicians for over a decade. Musically, Tim has studied classical and jazz trumpet at the ANU & CSM, and completed a jazz course at New York University. Tim has been a member of Canberra City Band for nearly 20 years.

Nicholas Husek – Policy, Process, & Legal

Nicholas has worked at the Australian Bureau since 2015 where he started as a graduate in the Melbourne where he was responsible for performing data requests (which have been used for the 2015 federal budget and cited at National Press Club) and managing estimation systems. Since then he has worked on Prime Minister and Cabinet Public Sector data management problem turning freight telematics data in meaningful official statistics, and creating new statistics to better estimate survey quality. During this time he has managed staff for projects for creating editing tools. This involved teaching the the skills necessary for the role and establishing deadlines so that the project could meet stakeholder needs. He also has managed 20 staff, and been responsible for solving technology related issues which won him a reward and recognition award. Aside from this he has acted as secretariat for Statistics New Zealand and the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics.

Jenny Geldart – Media

Born and raised in Canberra, Jenny Geldart has a life long passion for music and visual arts. From an early age, Jenny has played the trumpet with many acclaimed music groups including the award winning Canberra City Band. In the last decade, Jenny has embraced the bugle and provides her services for many commemorative events such as ANZAC day and Remembrance day. Jenny has a keen interest in video and audio production and has been featured by the ABC for her work in underwater videography. As a trained Master Scuba Diver, Jenny participates in a projects documenting fish species for the Australian Museum. She is a capable artist who works in many disciplines including painting, sculpture and textiles.


Jordan is a professional Bassoonist

CCB is one of Australia's oldest and most highly decorated concert bands. Canberra City Band was established in 1925 and has a long standing history as the band of Canberra. Regardless of your level, we want to hear from you! We play for a variety of community events throughout the year and if you don't want to play, feel free to come have a listen.
